Week 8

WEEK 8 STUDIO MAKING

This week I created a model that was 1:20 scale with paper. Given my tutor's feedback, I decided to add two windows on the wall to enhance the model. From the inspirations from Pinterest images, I created the model with a ceiling made out of three lines. I thought about when the building is in the light, from the inside, the light could shine through and create an interesting pattern of lines.

After creating the 1:20 scale model, I decided it would be interesting to place one of my paper technique models on top of the building, creating an abstract appearance. This model would highly show different types of light from all angles and areas.

WEEK 8 STUDIO MAKING

Fusion360 - 3D Shapes (loft & shape) Initials Task

Initials I used:

J = Jennifer
C = Chaelin (middle name)
L = Lee

Fusion360 - 3D Shapes (materials) Initials Task

1.

- This model represents; my favourite colour, blue and the material that most interested me which was 'mirror'.

- These materials show my interests as I enjoyed choosing which materials I liked, which were these. I also like how the cool tone of this colour of blue and purple complements the mirror-look material. This appearance definitely gives a cool tone atmosphere which I prefer, rather than warm-toned.
2.

- This model shows the second material I produced, which was comprised of glass - light colour.

- I liked how the glass looked as it gave a natural look and not give an intense atmosphere like the previous and following model.

- This material reflects my interests as I like the notion of transparency. I believe this material suggests the idea of modernity and an urban environment which complements and supports this course.

- I used the colour light pink as it can give a slight tint of colour amplify this design.

3.

- This model is created with materials including steel-satin and glass -light colour.

- I used red to represent the colour of my astrological sign which is Aries, representing fire and passion.

- After testing out the colours and materials, this style interested me the most as it gives an intense yet distinctive mood.

Studio Work

.

For this model, I used a range of materials including balsa and CDs which created an interesting result. The CD creates a holographic appearance which shows vivid lighting. The balsa creates a professional appearance to the model through its clean-cut model. I added an entrance at the front of the model, and a large rectangular window on the opposite side for sunlight. I enjoyed using CDs as I like the holographic appearance, I think it would be able to create an interesting and aesthetic look to the model and reflect light off the model. I now want to try if I can reflect the light into the building and photograph what it would look like.

Week 5

Fusion 350 A Space Between Task Produced three rectangular prisms connected to one large room.      Final Product in Illustrator - ready to laser cut! This task was highly challenging for me as it was my first time using this application and took a while to get a hang of it. I had to repeat several times to understand the procedures on using Fusion360, in which Russell's videos helped a lot. I finally created three rectangular prisms that are all connected together. I decided to design this based on my room and add two prisms to make it more interesting. For future projects, I want to try adding more models on top of a model, rather than all models being placed on the same surface. I found that using Illustrator was easier than F360 as it was very straight forward and simple.
